Meredith Park, London

We were looking through the wading pool locations in the city and discovered that a couple of them are due to close for the 2020 season by the end of this week (August 15) so we thought we better get a move on to visit them. This brought us to Meredith Park in central London.

Located at 450 Nelson St., Meredith Park is small, but quiet, despite its more central location. At this park there is a playground, wading pool, 2 basketball courts, a tennis court and there are public washrooms however they were not open when we visited.

There is no off street parking available, so you must park on the road and I’d advise you to watch for signs indicating where you can and cannot park as there are no parking signs at different spots along the street.

The wading pool here is a little smaller than most of the standard ones around the city. It is an oval shape and does have a clear entry point so you know where it is shallowest. There are no benches around the pool so you may want to come prepared with a picnic blanket to sit on.

The lifeguard that was on duty the day we went was very good. He actually talked with the kids and seemed quite friendly. I think this may be the first time we’ve been to a wading pool where the guard said anything.

There is only one playground here and it is smaller and is a pretty common structure found at a lot of the small community parks.

The ground cover is wood chips, there is one standard swing and one baby swing. There are two cute rocking horse features, one is a ladybug and the other a cricket, there is also a little musical feature.

There is one bench beside the playground, so not a lot of seating options here, however there are some nice trees to set up under for some shade and snack time.

Overall, this park isn’t going to win any awards for “wow factor” but a wading pool is always a plus in a hot summer like this one.

A positive aspect for this park is that it doesn’t appear to get very busy. In speaking with the lifeguard and based on some posts I’ve seen on community Facebook groups, this park in generally pretty quiet. At the time of our visit there was just one other family at the park. So if you’re local to the area it might be a nice walk for a picnic and a splash in the wading pool.

  1. Definitely a clutch find in terms of a park with water and a low likelihood of seeing others.

The basketball court is one of the nicest outdoor courts in London though surprisingly.
