Meadowgate Park, Summerside, London Ontario

Within the Summerside neighbourhood on London’s south-east end, at 1165 Darnley Blvd, is Meadowgate Park.

Big play structure at Meadowgate Park.

I’m going to save some of you some time. This park is great, fantastic playground equipment, great splash pad, public washrooms available. However….. almost every time we have been here it has been quite busy, and when soccer season is on, it’s even busier during game times (as there are 4 soccer pitches here).

Now that I got that over with, let’s start with the splash pad.

Meadowgate splash pad

This large, colourful splash pad has cement ground cover but lots of water features and fountains, along with two activation buttons, one of which is on the ground so the toddlers like that.

There are features that dump water on you for a good soaking, some misting features to run through, some fountains shoot water high, and some stay low. There is something for kids of all ages to find and enjoy at this splash pad.

The splash pad and playground are next to each other so you can easily position yourself to keep an eye on both areas.

The playgrounds are wood chip covered with a fun nature / woodsy theme (I do love a good theme).

Toddler playground at Meadgate Park

The toddler playground is a nice size with two slides, stairs to climb up and some fun features attached to play with, like a telescope, spinning music features that play nature sounds, etc.

The big playground has a ramp entry that will take you to the rocking boat (at least that’s what my kids call it), and leads to stairs to climb up to the higher platforms where you will find two slides (one of which is zigzag shaped!). There are built it features like a spinner that plays nature sounds, a searing wheel, etc, etc. There are different forms and shapes of ladders that also lead up to the high platform making this a great playground for games of tag.

There is also a “monkey area” with monkey bars, climbing walls, as obstacle that you have to move across “logs” that rock side to side.

What I refer to as “the monkey area” of the big playground at Meadowgate park.

There is also a swing set with 2 baby swings and 2 standard swings, there was an accessible swing here at one time but it appears to have been removed, hopefully to be replaced soon.

Another great thing (at least I think it’s great) is that the Summerside Community Club arranges a few food truck nights through the summer. They also do a Canada Day celebration with live entertainment and fireworks. You can check them out on Facebook to find out when their next event is.

Overall review, this is a really good park. The splash pad is large and offers something for all ages, as does the playground. Just be prepared that it can get quite busy.
